the android situation is the same problem with everyone who tries to compete with apple. if you don’t build the hard- AND software, you tend to lose on the most important end: the user-end.

I didn’t know all Native Americans were Mexican werewolves.

— yeah I have a racist friend. but her point about “new moon” has the benefit of being both hard to deny on principle and really funny.

bon iver & st. vincent, “roslyn” from the twilight saga: new moon soundtrack

ok, so i went to this movie. it was full of retarded, as expected. but there were a couple of redeeming qualities to it that managed to surmount even the HUGE number of orgasming thirteen-year-olds in the audience.

first, the soundtrack to this was put together by someone who clearly is obsessed with the same music that i am right now. i’ve been in a weird musical mood lately, described by some as dreary…obviously, i disagree, but i have been more appreciative of musically delicate and/or lyrically sound tunes of late. this soundtrack is an exercise in this, no more adequately summed up than in the four minutes and fifty seconds filled by this song. the way justin vernon wails “aren’t we just terrified?” send shivers up my spine.

second, it’s like all the important twilight actresses got hotter, somehow. kudos to whoever did kristen stewart’s makeup: she no longer look fifteen. even that victoria bitch was looking really attractive, when she was blazing through the air. i will include taylor lautner in this category, since i too now lust after the body of a seventeen-year-old boy.

i heard my very first death cab for cutie song about the same time that i first opened my livejournal page, so that’d be about the end of tenth grade, which was also coincidentally when i got my first cell phone.

i think i’d heard the song in a movie or on a tv show. i wish i could remember which song it was…i remember that i downloaded it and jammed out to it. and then never listened to them again.

until the plans album came out. i remember downloading that when i was a sophomore in college. and then becoming totally obsessed with the band for a good year or so. a friend of mine and i even went to see them in concert when they performed at the on-campus basketball arena. we were surrounded by insane emo kids. i was in heaven.

whenever they pop up in the shuffle, i always get a little nostalgic for what were undoubtedly simpler times.

daft punk, “encore - human after all / together - together / one more time (reprise) / stardust - music sounds better with you”, alive

[i just got done jamming out in an exceedingly aerobic fashion to this song in the middle of my living room. it’s a good thing my neighbor’s bedroom isn’t on that wall, she might have stopped being so friendly towards me.

god, i love daft punk.]

today, i realized that i’m less anal when i’m stressed.
allow me to clarify.
i hate to lose shit. i hate not knowing exactly where all of my stuff is. i hate looking for my stuff, and trying to convince myself that i’m not crazy. i HATE misplacing something, and then NOT REMEMBERING…and then later, having to tear up the house to find it.
clearly, i looked forward to living alone. living alone means EVERYTHING is where you last put it, unless someone broke in (and criminals don’t usually make it a habit to break in JUST to rearrange your bookcase and move your tape measure).
i just ended a really long and stressful week of grad-student-ness, and at the end of it, i realized that i couldn’t find a bunch of shit. no, really, i woke up this morning (or, whatever, this afternoon…i have haD 15 hours of sleep since sunday morning), and went looking for a magazine. it came in the mail on monday, and i was flipping through it on my 2.5 block trek back from the mailbox. i put it…somewhere, and wanted to finish it today. it took me 20 minutes to find, and my apartment has less than 900 square feet of space in which to lose something.
since last week, i’ve also had to go looking for the knife my dad just bought me, the batteries he also bought me, my favorite pen, a watch, one of my notebooks, a candle, my lighter, my other lighter, my iPod, my iPhone headphones (twice), the screws to the electrical plates…and that was just the shit i lost during this week. i’m sure there’s something else that i misplaced at some other stressful time that i just haven’t needed.
needless to say, i’m REALLY looking forward to taking a break, and seeing my family.

There are plenty of good people in this world. That’s not the problem. The problem comes in for most of us when we try to find them on our own merits. Some things, you just have to wait for.

rachel maddow, as host of "meet the press": a good idea? »

down in the comments section, some folks were getting a little ignorant.

i personally love the idea. Maddow is not only an excellent pundit with some pretty impressive experience, she’s actually one of those “political elite minds” and can speak with a bit more authority than others because of her doctorate in politics. having someone who could be reasonably labelled an “expert” speak to and question experts could really raise the level of debate, not just on MTP, but, by God, dare i say, in this country’s discussion of political issues.

folks, that’s is not a bad thing. words like “elite” and “intelligent” are GOOD, i promise.
